Apples!

This week have been learning all about APPLES!  We have read a lot of books that taught us about how apples grow.  We also got to read and WRITE about Johnny Appleseed.  Our stories are hanging in the hallway now!

The pictures below are from a day of "Apple Math."  Each first grader was given their very own apple.  First, they got to draw a picture of it.  Then they got to make a prediction before seeing how many bears (math manipulative) it took to weigh the same as their apple.  Most apples weighed as much as 30 little bears!  Some of our predictions were very close.
Then students used a string to measure the circumference of their apple.  We used our strings and converted that length into cubes and inches.  It was cool!

Lastly, we got to taste three different colors of apples.  We made a prediction again, this time guessing what color we would like the best.  We discovered that 19 people in our class like yellow apples the best, 3 people like green the best and 4 people like red apples the best!  Then we made a graph.  It is hanging in the hall too!

We have had a lot of  FUN learning about apples!  WE LOVE APPLES!

Special thanks to Grandma Johnson (Mrs. Frisch's mom) for bringing us apples!  And Kimber (cooper's mom/our room-mom) for helping us weigh our apples!!!!
